Advoiding Copyright

To advoid copyright infringment we have chosen not to use "let the drummer kick" by Citizen Cope. This song is owned by dream works reccords.

Instead we have chosen to create our own sound track using garageband. Garageband is is a software application for Mac OS X that allows you to create your own music or podcasts. It was created by Apple as a part of  their iLife software.Garageband is a digital audio creator and music sequencer, which can record and play back multiple tracks of audio.

Notes
Our film Shows how there is always going to be someone bigger and better than you. We will use pull focus to highlight the person we are concentrating on in the particular scene. All scenes will be shot in a school environment because this is easy available to us. We will also only be using two actors outside of our class to make it easy for us to organise filiming.

Location Planning

We have thought of several possible locations to film our short film, including:
  • Media room in the Cabot Eye
  • AF11 (computer room)
  • 6th form area in the Cabot Eye (looks simular to a waiting room)
  • AF7 (regular school classroom)
  • "The street"(main school corridor)

Initial Ideas

Possible Settings
Different classes throughout the school
Cabot eye building
ICT Room
A-wing Room

Possible Sound
Let The Drummer Kick

Possible Story Line/ Plot
Scene One

All scenes will be shot in a school environment because this is easy available to us. We will also only be using one actor outside of our class to male it easy for us to get filiming.

Let the drummer kick - Possible Sound Track

This Song was in the background for "The Bulling Effect" Short film. We Really liked this song we may even use it in the background for our own short film.

It is called "Let the drummer kick" by Citizen Cope.

The Bullying Effect - Short Film

This short film is going what ares it based on. It will have exactly the same setting as this (a School Environment).I like when they use a slow motion edit to show the emotions of the girl. I thought that maybe there should have been less music in it but it was still really good. I like the setting of it which is the same as our initial plan has been set out for

Genre

The genre of the short films we have been looking at has been drama.

Our short film is probably going to be based on one of the videos that we have watched. we will try to put some kind of moral behind it for example "The Black Hole" which had "don't be greedy" moral behind it.

The main genre are going to we are going to use will be put it in is Drama. Its dramatic, with some humor, lots of emotion and often an important message behind it.

We are going to use many conventions of this genre for example low angle shots to show intimidation and high angle shots to show fear. The setting will be similar to that of of it will show the genre too as we will be timing when the weather is not very good. We want to use the old common room is now its not at its best state. Outside were there are more gritty looking things we will exploit.

New Boy - Short Film

This short film is about a young african boy with a haunting back story starts that starts school in Ireland. He quickly finds out quickly exactly what it means to be the new kid. This film was the winner of "best narrative short" at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. This type of film would be very easy to re-create because it is almost entirely filmed in a school environment.

Online Planer

Today I have created a time plan, to do this i uses a website called Tom's Planner. It allows me to schedule and re-schedule my entire project. It is not set in stone because it can be edited at any time. It tells us what we should be doing and how long it should take. It is very easy to use and allows us to both login to the same plan and edit it.

Having a schedule like this allows us to be able to check how far into our project we should be. The planner allows us to split our project up in to samll chunks. We have used Planning, Pre-Production, Production, Review and Ancillary Tasks as our headings.

Here is a Screen Shot of our planner.

The Black Hole - Short Film

I found this short film to have a message behind it because, it appealed to the younger viewers with the effects and then it turned the minds of the audience into thinking about what it's trying to show. At the end when he gets stuck in the safe it really shows to people about greed and what it can do to people. The type of shots used in the film all have a meaning. Most of the shots were at a low angle showing that at first he had all the control in the matter and as soon as begins to lose it, the shots turn to high angle shots to signify him as a crook or thief. I liked this short film because of the parrallel sound they put with it. It was a diegetic sound of copy machines, paper everywhere, with a real office vibe which it portrayed very well

Company Name and Logo

Today we concentrated on getting a company name sorted for our project. In the end we decided on Front Room Films. After we had picked the company name I decided to make a logo for it. This is what I came up with.

Target Audiance Feedback

This year we have decided to use web 2.0 to its full potential. To gather feedback from my target audiance I have made pages on several social networking sites. With these pages I can publish a bulitin with a link to an online survey webiste such as Survey Monkey. This website allows me to create free surveys and view results as graphs. This will help me to get comments and criticism from my target audiance. I can also post links to my videos on YouTube and ask for oppinions.

We have created a Twitter Account

We have also made a Facebook Page

In Camera Editing Task

Last lesson we were put into groups and told to use to create a very short film which contained no desktop editing. The film had themed on suspicion and we had to plan the different shots and quickly storyboard. We went to the school car park with a tripod and a camera. We set up the shots using our storyboard.

The first shot was a long shot of someone trying to open a car door looking. this was how we intended to show suspicion. The second shot was a discovery shot from behind the wing mirror revealing someone trying to open the door. The next shot wad a close up of the hand pulling on the handle. Then we used long shot of two people looking towards the camera. Next we used an over the shoulder shot of someone pointing at the man trying to open the car. The suspicious man then runs away from the car.

Because we were only aloud to use 'in Camera Editing' we had to had to film all shots in chronological order. We also had to use camera techniques to compensate for the lack of real editing. One of the techniques we used was a 'discovery shot'. This is when the camera is moved from behind an object to reveal something else. In our piece the camera was hiding behind a wing mirror of a car to reveal someone trying to open the door.

Targets

Last year for my AS Level Media project, we produced an opening to a thriller film. I think that we managed to crate a reasonable opening scene using most of the codes and conventions of the thriller genre. From last year I have come up with some targets for myself to make my project even better than last year.

1) Do more posts on my blog - last year I had very few blog posts. This year I am aiming to lots more blog posts than last year.

2)Leave more time for editing my video. Last year the editing took up a lot of time that we hadn't planned for. This year I will set much more time aside for editing.

3)Use my time more effectively - Last year I didn't start filming my project soon enough. This meant I had to rush some aspects of it in order to get it finished. This time I will start filming as soon as possible
